PONMUDI- A HILLSTATION WITH DIVINE BEAUTY

Kerela is one of the most mesmerizing places of South-India and Ponmudi is one of the best places in Kerela, so you can just imagine the magic of tourism in Ponmudi. You will be happy to know that Ponmudi is a hill station
which is around 61 kms away from Trivandrum city and is a very popular holiday spot of today. The name Ponmudi means “The Golden Peak” in Malyalam and it is so because of its very location which is on an altitude of 1100 m. Ponmudi is present in the Western Ghats and lies parallel to the Arabian Sea, a location having perfect combination of the ranges and the sea. PONMUDI TOURIST ATTRACTIONS:
 AGASTHYAKOODAM TOUR: It is one amongst the highest peaks in Western Ghats with a height of 1868m and is named after a saint “Agasthya”. It is a place of immense beauty and is a bird watcher’s paradise. Do not miss a chance to visit the Agasthya Vanam Biological Park which is a highlighted place to every tourist who visits here.

NAYYAR DAM:This dam is very popular among tourists and is about 80 kms away from Ponmudi. Another famous thing associated with the dam is Sivananda Ashram which was established in the year 1978. Once you visit the dam you shall also visit the Crocodile Park by a boat available from the Wildlife Information Center, where you can witness Crocodiles lying down lazily.

LIGHTHOUSE: It is surrounded with palms and is 35 m high that is situated on the Kurunkal Hills. To enjoy the cold breeze and scenic beauty one should visit it for sure.

VALIATHURA PORT: It is the one and only port which is situated on the coast of South Kerala and is 703 ft in its length. Fan of fishing? Then visit this port for sure.

BEEMAPALLI TOUR: There’s a Beemapalli Dargah (pilgrimage place) which is devoted to a pious Muslim lady, Bee Umma. And there’s also a 10 day festival organized with cultural events here.
JANARDANASWAMY TEMPLE: It is a 2000 years old temple and has fascinating architectural framework.

ACTVITIES TO ENJOY
TREKKING: Ponmudi offers a never forgetting trekking experience through two paths, one at Katoor and the other at Bonacaud. But a prior permission is necessary from the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary. You can also enjoy camping in the forest and avail various packages for trekking, boat rides and accommodation.

THENMALA TOUR: It is a well planned eco-tourism project and is about 70 kms away from Ponmudi . You can enjoy various activities like rappling, river crossing etc here.

AKKULAM AND VELI TOURIST VILLAGE: You can explore and enjoy the vast lagoons by boating here.

THE AARANMULA BOAT RACE: This annual boat race is a part of the Aaranmula Temple Festival and is held anytime in the months of August - September.

Ponmudi through out the year has a moderate and pleasant climate and so you can visit this hill station with divine beauty, at any point of the year. However, it is advisable that you do not forget your woolen clothes as it becomes really cold during the nights.
