Sardar Vallabhai Patel Police Museum – Portraying the History and Growth of the Police Department of Kerala and Rest of India



Dedicated to the iron man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Police Museum is one of the only museums in India that was founded with an aim to sketch the history and growth of the police force in India.
It is located opposite to the Kollam Railway Station within the premises of the east police station in the city of Kollam in the Gods own Country of Kerala in South India. 

In addition to the arms and ammunitions including bullets, guns, machines as well as diversity of other weapons; the museum also houses information charts regarding DNA tests, human bones, finger prints, snaps of police dogs and variety of medals awarded to policemen of different ranks.

 The ammunitions and arms housed inside this museum were used ruing the 18th and 19th centuries. The photographs of Tsunami at Kollam and Malanada Fireworks incident are also exhibited which are really tear-jerking.

Marty’s gallery is another important part of this museum where pictures of the great martyrs who served their life for the freedom of India are being displayed. The museum is housed in an authentic building and is surrounded by emerald environ which makes it ideal to pay a visit while in Kollam apart from the huge collection of the police force of Kerala and their history.

A massive concrete statue weighing 1.1 tons of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel sculpted by Mr. Santosh (police constable) is the added attraction of the museum apart from the historical antiques. The statue was completed in the year 2000.  

Visitors can also visit the Kollam Clock Tower placed in close proximity to this museum. Built in 1944, the quadrangular tower is a prime landmark of the city and is a must visit site while on a tour to the police museum.    

Entrance Fee and Timings:
The entry fee for entering inside the museum is Rs. 3/adult and Rs. 1/children. 
It remains open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. 

Open Days: The museum remains open on all days.
Best time to Visit: You can visit the museum in any time of the year but considering the climatic conditions of Kollam an ideal time to visit the museum is from the month of August to March.

Accommodation: Plenty of hotels and resorts are located in and around the police museum which are all adorned with all the required facilities and services. Hotels located in close proximity to the museum are Sea Palace, Aquasserenne and Hotel Cambay Palm Lagoon. 
    
How to Get There:
Closest Airport: Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at about 65 km.
Closest Railway Station: Kollam railway Station about 2 km from the bus terminus of Kollam is the closest to the museum.   

By Road: Kollam city is connected with all the major cities by roads. One can avail a taxi or get on a routine bus from the airport to reach this place. The museum is located at a walking distance from the railway station.
